演讲题目:Biotechnology and the Human Future 提纲: In the dramatic changes brought about by advances in biotechnology, there is, at once, an evident dignity and a danger: our powers of comprehension and control of the natural world can be used not only for healing but now also for purposes beyond therapy, in the production of unnatural pleasures and unnatural competitive social advantage. Against the background of our evolutionary origins, natural embodiment and biosocial rhythm of life, we consider three areas of potential technological alteration--- natural procreation, neurologic functioning and aging--- and the resulting consequences for personal, social and spiritual life and human dignity. 演讲人: William B. Hurlbut is Consulting Professor, Department of Neurology and Neurological Science, Stanford University Medical Center. His specialties include: ethical issues of advancing biomedical technology; biological basis of moral awareness; integration of theology and philosophy of biology. He has been a member of the president’s Council on Bioethics, since 2002. He is author of Altered Nuclear Transfer, a proposed technological solution to the moral controversy over embryonic stem cell research. 主请人:人文学院哲学系王晓朝教授 主持人:人文学院哲学系肖巍教授
