Vries教授简介

 Gerard de Vries is Professor of Philosophy of Science (Chair) at the University of Amsterdam since 1997. From 1987-97 he was the Dean of the Netherlands Graduate School in Science, Technology and Modern Culture. In 2006 De Vries was appointed at the Scientific Council for Government Policy in The Hague, the main think-tank for long-term policy issues of the Dutch government. He holds this position in combination with his Amsterdam professorship.

 Gerard de Vries’ work is chiefly been concerned with the social, political and ethical aspects of contemporary science and technology. He has published several books on the philosophy of science, on political philosophy, and on medical ethics and the social consequences of developments in modern medicine, and articles on philosophy and on science and technology studies. His work at the Scientific Council for Government Policy included contributions to a report on a pragmatist view on politics and government and a book-length study on risk policy and precaution. He currently works on a monograph about the French philosopher and anthropologist of science Bruno Latour and, at the Scientific Council for Government Policy, on a study about markets and public interests.
