主讲人简介:
Jennie C. Stephens 是美国克拉克大学国际发展、社区与环境系环境科学与政策助理教授,她同时也是哈佛大学肯尼迪政府学院能源技术创新政策小组成员。Stephens主要从事与全球气候变化相关的能源技术革新的社会政治方面的研究。
Stephens于1997年取得哈佛大学环境科学与公共政策文学学士学位,分别于1998年,2002年获得加州理工大学环境科学与工程硕士、博士学位。在任教于美国克拉克大学之前,曾在哈佛大学肯尼迪政府学院做博士后工作。曾在在塔夫斯大学、波士顿大学与麻省理工大学任教。
Jennie C. Stephensis an Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Policy at Clark University in the Department of International Development, Community and Environment; she is also a research affiliate of the Energy Technology Innovation Policy Group at Harvard University’s Kennedy School.  Stephens’ teaching, research, and community engagement focuses on socio-political aspects of energy technology innovation associated with confronting global climate change.  Stephens received her B.A. (1997) from Harvard University in Environmental Science and Public Policy and then earned both her M.S. (1998) and Ph.D. (2002) at the California Institute of Technology in Environmental Science and Engineering.  Before joining the faculty of Clark University, she did post-doctoral research at Harvard’s Kennedy School and she taught at Tufts, Boston University, and MIT. 
Tarla Rai Peterson是美国德克萨斯A&M大学野生动植物与渔业科学系教授,同时也担任瑞典农业科学大学环境传播教授和犹他大学传播学兼职教授。主要从事关于传播、环境政策和民主之间交叉地带的研究。
Tarla Rai Peterson hold the Boone and Crocket Chair of Wildlife and Conservation Policy at Texas A&M University (TAMU). she also serve as Professor of Environmental Communication at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Adjunct Professor of Communication at the University of Utah. Her research focuses on the intersections between communication, environmental policy, and democracy.
 
讲座内容简介:
 
风能和碳捕获是两种截然不同而又非常重要的新兴能源技术;在各种低碳能源技术中,它们被认为将为气候调节作出贡献。本报告将对美国四个州(马萨诸塞、明尼苏达、蒙大拿、德克萨斯)发展风能和碳捕获的社会经济环境进行了比较分析。为了能够对新兴能源技术在州一级所面临的社会经济环境进行比较评估,本研究结合比较了针对州级能源利益相关者的访谈和州级报纸的媒体分析。在半结构化的访谈中,州级能源政策参与者将基于它们所在州的独特环境解释它们对风能和碳捕获的认知。这种致力于考察两种能源技术所面临的社会政治环境的混合研究方法有助于帮助我们更好的理解能源技术创新及其在不同地区的论述在次国家级的变动。
    Wind power and carbon capture and storage (CCS) are two very different critical and emerging energy technologies considered among the portfolio of low-carbon energy technologies with potential to contribute to climate change mitigation.  This presentation reviews a comparative analysis of the sub-national socio-political context for wind and CCS development in four very different states in the United States: Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, and Texas. To comparatively assess the state-level socio-political context for emerging energy technologies, this research combines and compares analysis of interviews of state-level energy stakeholders with media analysis of state-level newspapers.  In semi-structured interviews, state-level energy policy interveners were asked to explain their perceptions of wind and CCS within their unique state context.  The results of these interviews are compared and contrasted with results of content analysis of newspaper coverage of both wind and CCS technology exploring the framing of energy technology discourse in the print media in each state.  This mixed-methods approach to characterizing the socio-political context for these two energy technologies contributes to improved understanding of sub-national variation in energy technology innovation and regional discourses associated with emerging energy technologies.
