Profile:
Prof. Shen obtained his Ph.D. degree at Harvard University in 1963. He has been the Berkeley faculty since 1964 and Principal Investigator in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since 1967. He is a member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences,National Academy of Sciences,Academia Sinica; and Foreign member of Chinese Academy Sciences. He was a fellow of American Physical Society and Optical Society of America and Sloan Fellow from 1966 to 1968. From 1972 to 1973, he was a Guggenheim Fellow. He was a Miller Professor in 1975 and 1981; He obtained the Alexander von Humboldt Award, C.H. Townes Award, A.L. Schawlow Prize, Max Planck Research Prize and F. Isakson Prize in 1984, 1986, 1992, 1996 and 1998, respectively. He gained the Dept. of Energy Award for outstanding scientific accomplishments in 1983 and sustained outstanding research in solid state physics in 1987 and for significant implications for DOE-Related technologies in 1997.
Abstract:
This talk will review the exciting development of nonlinear optics and its tremendous impact on many disciplines since the invention of laser 50 years ago. |
