The lecture will present two main points of my last book The bee and the Economist, which came out in French in the beginning of May. The first point deals with the transformations of finance in the long run. It provides an interpretation of the turmoil initiated by the subprime crisis. I criticize the naivety of opposing finance and “real economy” and the idea that the crisis has been provoked by too much liquidity and credit. I explain the difficulty of regulating financial institutions by the huge debt of states, which has increased in 2008 with the bail out but also in 2010 after the Greek crisis. However the transformation of finance can be understood and regulated only if one takes into account the rising of intangibles, digital revolution and the increasing role of an economy of contribution and pollination which contrasts the economy of exchange of Adam Smith and his followers. So doing I will explain in what respects cognitive capitalism strongly differs from industrial capitalism and propose new categories of value, work, production, circulation, distribution and taxes.
