简介:
The four letter code of DNA provides an elegant and simple way for specifying selective non-covalent interactions between two long chain strands. The preferred interactions between complementary sequences define many analytical approaches for genomic analysis. Microarrays represent a solid-state sensing platform involving miniaturization, robotics, and lithography for DNA detection. Interfacial and transport issues can readily define the performance of these devices. The talk will review these approaches and provide new way involving on-chip synthesis and the use of magnetic nanoparticles for enhancing performance. The selective interactions that are used in diagnosis also provide new opportunities for materials fabrication, particularly for bottom-up construction. The talk will highlight this approach for materials synthesis by a process of directed self-assembly. Methods will be detailed for constructing building blocks that include patchy surfaces.
