Recently, a methodology based on the truncated Wigner approximation has been developed into a powerful tool for treating effects arising from quantum and thermal fluctuations in trapped ultra-cold bosons. We have called this the c-field method and have used it to describe a wide range of equilibrium and dynamical phenomena. In this talk I will present some of our recent theoretical developments, including a quantitative treatment of the coupled dynamics of vortices and thermal clouds in non-equilibrium Bose condensates.
