Biography:
PING WU received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Nanjing Aeronautical and Astronomical University, China, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 1982, 1987, and 1991, respectively. After receiving his Ph.D. degree, he did postdoctoral work at Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering, St. Ingbert, German,y for two years (1992–1994). Since October 1994 he has been with Uppsala University, Sweden, and is an associate professor in the Division of Signals and Systems of the Department of Engineering Sciences at the university. He has authored and co-authored 16 journal papers and 27 conference papers. His current research interests are in wireless mesh and sensor networks, OFDM and MIMO, cross-layer design and optimization, network coding, and signal processing for applications in telecommunications.
Abstract:
Convergence of communications with computation has resulted in Internet, which has led to the IT revolution in the current phase; convergence of computation with control has led to digital control system; convergence of communications, control and computation (3C) could lead the IT revolution to the next phase.
This talk presents expansion of our current 2D research space of wireless communications (communication and computation) to the 3D research space by adding one more dimension (control), and the features and applications of the convergence of 3C. In particular, model predictive control (MPC) theory applicable to telecommunications is presented, and two examples based on MPC are given to show the benefits of 3C convergence.
