Abstract

We investigate three aspects of collaborative learning in service delivery environments – aversion to exploration, structure of the collaborative network, and strategic policy.  We develop a model of the three factors as they impact service performance.  The results of a simulation experiment based on this model to analyze the effect of the three variables on learning performance and knowledge development will be presented and discussed.

 

Biography:

 

Joseph Davis is Professor of Information Systems and Services at the School of Information Technologies, the University of Sydney. He is the theme leader for Service Computing at the Centre for Distributed and High Performance Computing besides directing the Knowledge Discovery and Management Research Group at the University of Sydney. He has previously served in the Information Systems Departments at the University of Wollongong, Australia, University of Auckland, New Zealand, and Indiana University Bloomington, USA and as visiting Professor/research scientist at Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University.

 

He has published two books and over 90 academic papers in the areas of services, knowledge management, decision support systems, and economics of information technologies. He is a Senior Member of the ACM, a Charter Member of the Association for Information Systems and a member of the IEEE. His primary research interests are in knowledge management including ontologies, data mining, and the engineering and management of complex service systems.
