PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

STAFF SCIENTIST AND PRINCIPLE INVESTIGATOR, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA.

Leader of the high temperature corrosion group.  Research involves various aspects of the nucleation, growth and adhesion of oxide scales on metals and alloys.  Present focuses are i) evolution of the scale/alloy interface, in terms of chemistry and microstructure, and its relationship with interfacial strength, ii) development and relaxation of stresses in oxides grown on different types of model alloys, determined from in-situ synchrotron x-rays and iii) long term chemical and mechanical stability of alloys in reduced temperature solid oxide fuel cell assemblies.  Past activities include fundamental erosion/corrosion studies in simulated fluidized bed combustion systems on low carbon steel and other commercial alloys and coatings.
