I want to talk about a direct, simple computation of the Euler characteristic of the Chow variety parametrizing the algebraic cycles of a given degree and dimension in the complex projective space, with generalization to  Chow variety over an arbitrary algebraic closed field.  More general Chow varieties are considered.
