In this talk I will give a review about the development of holomorphic motions from complex dynamics and Teichmuller theory. I will also introduce some important applications of holomorphic motions into complex dynamics and into Teichmuller theory. I will connect the extendibility of holomorphic motions with the lifting problem in Theichmuller theory and then give a proof of the lifting problem for the unit disk case. Finally, I will connect the extendibility of holomorphic motions with homotopy and monodromy in topology.
