The use of Type Iasupernovae as distance indicators led to the startling discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe more than a decade ago. Large 2nd generation surveys have significantly increased the size and quality of the very distant supernova sample. However, the critical nearby reference sample still suffers problems when employed for cosmology. In this talk I will discuss recent progress in measuring the dark energy equation of state with both distant and nearby supernova, with an emphasis on the Nearby Supernova Factory (SNfactory), which second phase is starting with TsinghuaCenter for Astrophysics as a major partner. |
