*Flame and Wall Interactions: Flame modes, Wall materials, Fuel mixtures and
Thermal loading

Flame and wall interactions an important role in many combustion devices. In
some of the applications the heat transfer has to be as high as possible
while in some other cases the wall temperature should be kept as low as
possible. The investigation of flame of wall interactions is therefore of
great importance. In this study, impinging flames at different modes, fuel
mixture and thermal loading on different wall material has been studied. It
has been observed that the wall temperature is a strong function of both the
wall materials and fuel mixtures. The thermal loading can have very
different wall temperature patterns if the flame modes are different.

*Flame and Acoustic Wave Interactions: Acoustic streaming measurement and
Schlieren observation of flame dynamics

Flame and acoustic wave coupling can affect the combustion dynamics in a
significant way. For example, unwanted thermoacoustic instability could
interrupt the normal operation of power generation gas turbines causing
unwanted economic loss and inconvenience. In this study, flame and acoustic
wave interaction in an acoustically excited tube has been studied using PIV
and high speed schlieren visualization. The PIV measurements are
phase-locked with the acoustic excitation. Very interesting acoustic
streaming flow patterns caused by acoustic streaming have been observed. The
schlieren observation has shown the detail structure of the fuel and burnt
gas. The results provide insights into the complex interaction resultant
flame patterns.
