清华大学（清华）与金山大学（金山）于2025年5月签署科研合作协议，建立联合科研基金 （下称“基金”），用以支持由两校教师共同主导的优秀合作科研项目。根据协议约定，现启动2026联合科研基金项目征集工作。具体要求如下。

Tsinghua University (Tsinghua) and the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (Wits) established the Joint Research Initiative Fund (JRIF) in June 2025, reflecting the shared commitment of both universities to collaborate on research addressing topics of mutual interest. The first round of call is now open.

项目征集领域：本次项目征集面向两校各院系开放，征集领域包括工程、可持续发展、气候变化、医学，以及上述领域相关的交叉学科研究。

Scope of the Call: This call is open to all departments of both universities. Proposed projects may focus on engineering, sustainability, climate change, healthcare, as well as interdisciplinary research related to the above areas.

申请人要求：本次征集面向两校各院系教师开放。申请人须为清华大学/金山大学正式在职教师，原则上应为全职在岗教师。优先支持40周岁以下的优秀青年教师项目，并优先支持已具有一定合作基础的科研项目。两校申请人须联合申报同一合作科研项目，并分别按照各自学校的项目征集通知要求提交申请材料。项目周期内，每位教师最多只能担任一个项目的项目负责人（PI）。

Applicant requirements: This call is open to faculty members from all departments of both universities. Applicants must be full-time faculty members employed by the Tsinghua University/Wits University. Priority will be given to outstanding young faculty members under the age of 40, as well as to projects with an established foundation for collaboration.

Applicants from the two universities are required to jointly apply for the same collaborative research project and submit their applications in accordance with the respective project call requirements of their home institutions. During each funding cycle, each faculty member may serve as Principal Investigator (PI) for no more than one project.

项目经费额度与周期：本次计划资助不超过5个合作科研项目。项目经费由双方高校分别支持：清华大学为清华教师提供的资助额度为每个项目不超过20万元人民币；金山大学为其教师提供的资助额度为每个项目不超过8万南非兰特。项目执行周期为2年。

Project funding and cycle: In this call we intend to fund up to 5 joint research projects.  Funding will be provided separately by the two universities: Tsinghua University will support its faculty with up to RMB 200,000 per project, while Wits University will provide funding of up to ZAR 80,000 per project for its faculty members. Each joint project shall have a duration of two (2) years.

经费使用要求：项目经费的拨付与使用须遵守项目相关负责人所属院校的相关规章制度。经费主要用于支持项目合作双方的学术交流与互访、科研活动组织及学术会议（研讨会）组织、学术成果发表，及参加两校年度科研合作项目研讨会等相关活动。项目经费不可用于发放工资‘奖学金或学生资助。

Supported activities / Use of Funds: The disbursement and use of project funds shall comply with the rules and regulations of the Principal Investigator’s home institution. Funding is intended to support academic exchanges and reciprocal visits between the collaborating research teams, the organization of joint research activities, meetings and workshops, the dissemination of research outcomes (including joint publications), as well as participation in annual joint research workshop organized by the two universities. The funds may not be used for payment of salaries, scholarships or studentships.

评审流程：申请材料将首先由双方学校根据各自的内部政策进行初步评议。随后，两校评审委员会将联合评审，依据双方签署的科研合作协议的精神与原则，确定拟资助项目及各项目的经费额度。

Selection of applications: Applications will first be reviewed by each institution in accordance with its internal policies. Subsequently, the joint review committees of both universities will assess the proposals together and, based on the principles and intent of the Research Collaboration Agreement signed between the two universities, decide which project will be funded and the corresponding allocation of funds for each project.

Selection Criteria：

A. Academic quality of the proposed project

B. Research strength and track record of the applicant and their research group

C. Compatibility and complementarity of the collaboration between the co-applicants

D. Expected research outcomes and potential long-term impact

预期产出要求：

项目执行期间，双方科研人员至少互访两次，并参加由双方学校组织的合作科研项目研讨会；

除上述要求外，至少实现以下成果中的两项：

A. 基于合作项目内容，联合发表高水平国际学术期刊（如SCI或EI期刊）文章至少两篇（双方项目负责人或项目核心成员为第一、第二或通讯作者），或至少申请一项国际专利（清华和金山大学为专利联合申请人）；

B. 清华/金山科研人员或研究生到对方学校进行科研工作累计3个月以上；

C. 清华/金山科研人员在对方学校进行专业授课4次以上；

D. 合作举办一场高水平国际会议；

E. 合作科研项目获得第三方后续资助；

F. 其他具备同等价值的研究成果。

Expected deliverables：

·         Researchers from both institutions shall visit each other at least twice and participate in the collaborative research project workshop organized by the two universities during the project execution period.

·         In addition to the above visits and workshop participation, at least two of the following deliverables should be achieved:

A.     At least two peer-viewed articles (e.g. SCI, EI journals) jointly published based on the content of the collaborative project (the PI or core project members shall be first, second, or corresponding authors); or at least one international patent jointly applied for by Tsinghua University and Wits University;

B.      Researchers or graduate students from Tsinghua/Wits shall carry out research in the partner institution for a total of more than 3 months;

C.      Researchers from Tsinghua/Wits shall deliver at least 4 specialized lectures at the partner institution;

D.     Jointly organize a high-level international conference;

E.      Obtain follow-up funding for the collaborative project from a third party;

F.      Other outcomes of equivalent value.

申请提交要求： 双方项目负责人须共同准备申请材料，并分别按照各自学校规定的截止日期提交申请。

清华大学申请人请使用中文填写《2026清华大学-金山大学联合科研基金项目申请表》，保存PDF文件并命名为“2026清华大学-金山大学联合科研基金项目申请表_院系_申请人姓名”。清华大学申请人请登录科研信息管理系统，进入“服务大厅”，选择“自主科研项目申报”模块，点击“立即办理”，选择“2026清华大学-金山大学联合科研基金项目征集”进行申报并上传申请表。

金山大学申请人须使用英文填写“2026清华大学-金山大学联合科研基金项目申请表”，文件命名为《2026 Tsinghua University – University of the Witwatersrand Joint Research Initiative Fund Application Form》”，并將文件命名为“Tsinghua-Wits_Department_PI-Name”。请将填写完成的申请表（Word 格式）连同项目负责人的个人简历一并提交至：yan.yang@wits.ac.za。

Application requirements:

Each research proposal must be jointly prepared by the Principal Investigators (PIs) from both institutions. Each PI is required to submit an application to their respective institution by the stipulated deadline.

PIs from the Wits University are required to submit the completed application form (Word format), together with the PI’s curriculum vitae, to yan.yang@wits.ac.za. The application file should be named: “Wits-Tsinghua_Department_PI-Name”.

申请截止时间：2026年5月27日（周三）下午5点（当地时间，以收到电子版申请材料时间为准，逾期提交的申请将不予受理）

Submission Deadline:

The submission deadline is 5:00 p.m. (local time), Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Applications will be considered submitted upon receipt of the electronic application materials. Late applications will not be considered.

申请结果公布：项目申请将由两校联合评审委员会进行评议。评审结果将于2026年6月30日前通知双方项目负责人。获批项目在校内公示无异议后，清华大学项目负责人须签订《清华大学自主科研计划课题任务合同书》以正式立项，金山大学项目负责人须按照大学既定程序签署科研项目管理相关承诺文件。

Announcement of successful grants: the applications will be evaluated by the Joint Review Committee of the two universities. The results will be announced before June 30, 2026, and notified to the PIs from both universities. Following internal approval and public announcement procedure, the Tsinghua PI will be required to sign an agreement to initiate the project, while Wits PI will sign the relevant undertaking document on research project administration in accordance with university procedures.
