Dr. Gerda Horneck is former Deputy Director of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine of the German Aerospace Center DLR and former Head of its Radiation Biology Section (retired since 2004). She has been involved in several radiobiological and astrobiological space experiments since the Apollo era. For her research she was awarded with honors by ESA, NASA, DLR, ISSOL, WIA-Europe, and IAA. She has been advisor to national and international organizations on space-related issues (European Space Agency, European Commission, European Science Foundation). Currently she is member of ESA Planetary Protection Working Group, and Honorary President of the European Astrobiology Network Association EANA. She is author of more than 100 scientific publications and has written or edited several books on astrobiology and space biology. |
