Semiconductor thin-disk lasers promise to combine the wide wavelength

range of semiconductor lasers with power scalability, efficiency and

beam quality of Yb:YAG thin-disk lasers. Reducing the energy difference

between pump and laser photon by pumping the quantum wells directly may

help to approach this goal.
