Biography of Jacques G.H. Joosten

Personal data

-          Born on 13 February 1949 in Maasbree, The Netherlands.

Education

-          September 1971 until January 1977 Physics study at the University of Eindhoven

-          March 1977 until December 1981 research for the Ph.D. thesis at the Van ’t Hoff Laboratory for Physical and Colloid Chemistry, University of Utrecht.

Professional background

-          From September 1967 until September 1971: the Royal Shell Laboratories, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

-          From January 1982 until March 1984: assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, University of Leiden.

-          From April 1984 until December 1986: associate professor in the Department of Biophysics, University of Utrecht.

-          Since January 1987 until now: I have been working for DSM Research, which is the central R&D-organization of DSM located in Geleen, The Netherlands.

-          From 1995 until 2000: part-time professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands.

-          Visiting professor at Fudan University and Shanghai Jiatong University (both in Shanghai).

Current responsibility within DSM

Director Corporate Technology (DSM Innovation Center)

Member of the R&D-policy Board of DSM.

 

Responsible for developing policy and initiatives towards:

-          Future position of DSM Research within the total R&D-scene of  DSM thereby taking into account that DSM is shifting its portfolio very rapidly from traditional chemicals/polymers towards ‘Life Science Products (LSP)’ and Performance Materials.

-          Developing New Business Development models that lead the road from ’Back to the core’ to ‘Growth to core’.

Next to this

-          Chairman of the Executive Board of the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI).
DPI is a private public partnership based in the Netherlands with participants from all over Europe.

-          Chairman of the National Chemistry Board in The Netherlands.

-          -       In addition I have a number of responsibilities outside the DSM organization, especially in the international public Science & Technology area.
