Prof. H. Wallentowitz
After majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the Technische Universität Braunschweig in 1970, Henning Wallentowitz became a Research Assistant at the Institute of Automotive Engineering there. He completed his dissertation about driver and vehicle modelling for driving under side wind gusts in 1978. That same year he went into industry, working as a Technical Officer for Daimler-Benz AG from 1978-1985. He finally became department head in the advanced development testing division. Following this, Professor Wallentowitz worked as a Chief Engineer in advanced development of suspension systems for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG until 1992, before becoming Managing Director BMW Technik GmbH from 1992-1993. From 1993 until 2008 Professor Wallentowitz was University Professor and Director of the Institute of Automotive Engineering (ika) of the RWTH-Aachen.
He is also Honorary Professor of Tsinghua University in Beijing and of Tongji University in Shanghai. From 2008 to 2010 he was the Dean of the Graduate School for Intelligent Vehicle and Transportation of Keimyung University in Daegu (Korea). The development of several technical components, now used in modern cars, has been started by Professor Wallentowitz (4WD, air suspension, vehicle stability control).
