The current open questions in the field of gamma-ray bursts are reviewed, which include progenitor, central engine, jet composition, jet dissipation mechanism, radiation mechanism,
and origin of afterglow. In particular, I will discuss how new observational data demand shift of paradigm of the standard theoretical framework.
Prospects in the multi-messenger era will be discussed.

As of Aug. 2012, 22 long-term members and 18 short-term members have worked in the group, resulting in more than 50 published papers with the group members being the first author. • Principal Investigator of about 20 NASA and NSF grants. • Member of NASA Swift GRB mission Science Team. Serving in the theory group to provide theoretical interpretations to the Swift data. Shared 2007 Bruno Rossi Prize of AAS HEAD as a Swift team member (PI: N. Gehrels). • 2012: Barrick Distinguished Scholar Award, UNLV • 2007: First author of the New Hot Paper in the field of Space Science identified by Essential Science Indicators in July 2007 (Zhang et al. 2006, ApJ, 642, 354). • Delivered more than 100 conference talks / colloquia / lectures.
