讲座简介:
This lecture will present a new method of modelling storm surges, tides and tsunamis with the All-Source Green’s Function (ASGF). The concept of the ASGF and its computational algorithm will be first introduced. The lecture will then show how the ASGF can be used for instantaneous predictions of tsunami arrivals, and how the singular value decomposition of the ASGF can lead to a very fast and data assimilative modelling of storm surges and tides. Real time prediction of storm surges and their long term simulations with stochastic climate forcings in the next century will be presented too.
Also covered in this 2-hour long lecture are how to use the NASA/JPL ephemeris data to directly calculate the tide-generating potential instead of using the conventional harmonic series approximation, and how to use space filling curve to systematically generate computational grid which is rectangular yet of spatially varying resolution. The lecture should be interesting to both research colleagues and potential doctoral or post-doctoral candidates.
