Abstract: With today’s smart cameras, human objects within a single camera’s field of view can be tracked effectively and his/her actions can also be reliably recognized. When the tracked human moves across different cameras with disjoint views in a large scale community, a consistent tracking of this person imposes some challenges. More specifically, after exiting from a specific zone of the current camera, which camera and the corresponding zone this person is entering? What is the transition time involved? What are the color/brightness and viewing perspective difference between these two cameras’ zones? In this talk, I will present a fully unsupervised pairwise learning and probabilistic tracking system, which is self-organized and self-calibrated, and the proposed system is able to scale up efficiently when more cameras are added into the network. In addition, I will also present the scheme used to systematically track the human within a single camera under various degrees of occlusion, as well as the systematic recognition of the activities performed by the tracked human independent of the viewing perspectives.
