Dr. Jinxiang Zhu graduated from Tsinghua University in 1990. Dr. Zhu also earned M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1995 and 1997, respectively. He has authored over dozen technical papers on power system planning and power system economics. He is senior member of IEEE and member of CIGRE. His industry experiences include market simulation, market power analysis, system planning, EMS, and Operations Research.
He has nearly 15 years of experience in energy consulting related to electricity markets, utility economics, power systems operation and planning. He is the Principal Consultant in the Power technology Consulting group of ABB Inc. Prior to joining ABB, Dr. Zhu was the major developer for the GE MAPS (Multi-area Production Simulation) program in GE Power Systems Energy Consulting. Prior to joining GE, Dr. Zhu was a part-time electrical engineer at ABB.
Aging power systems must be modernized to successfully support our national security and our growing economy. Federal, States, Utilities, Regulators, Universities, and Vendors need co-operation to develop the vision and common goals, research and develop the new technologies, integrate and deploy programs and technologies to transform today’s grids to more reliable, secure, economic, quality, efficient, safe, and environmental friendly grids. Smart grid is new vision for 21st-century grid.
Market simulation tool is required to meet the emerging market operation requirements. The presentation will cover the fundamentals for LMP markets. A market simulation program will be used to demonstrate how to address the emerging issues in power markets. Wind generation model, hydro and pumped storage model are also addressed. The smart grid and its impacts can be assessed using market simulation tool.
