The talk will start with a presentation of some basic characteristics of the north European power system with a focus on some challenges caused by introduction of renewables and increased market coupling. Thereafter a response to these challenges, some project being conducted in the region, specifically at KTH will be presented. The presentation is concluded with a presentation of some recent work on islanding detection in power systems based on Bayesian inference for voltage phase angle differences.
