Dr. Young Joon KIM was graduated at Busan national university, Korea in 1994 for the Bachelor degree. He studied at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan, and got his Master and PHD degree in 2005 and 2008. His research interests include product development of hydro turbines and micro-hydropower system, technical standard and performance test for small hydropower equipment, etc.

Water and energy are closely related, and have many similarities. It takes a lot of energy to make water and a lot of energy to make water. Furthermore, water and energy are indispensable to human life. Nowadays, there are many moves internationally to consider and plan both water and energy simultaneously. In this presentation, I will present international policy, trends and technology on this subject. In Korea, K-water plays a role in managing water. K-water also performs energy production through hydroelectric power. I will refer to the basic mission of K-water, overseas business, and the latest water and energy related technologies. The main topic is also about business development, technology and policy on hydroelectric power, which includes the world's largest Sihwa tidal power. In addition to the location and kinetic energy of water, I will show you the new value of hydrothermal energy (energy due to the difference of water temperature).
