Elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) was first identified and analysed just over sixty years ago.  This talk reviews the history of EHL and then focuses on some of the outstanding problem areas, including the origins of EHL friction, mixed film lubrication and the use of EHL analysis to predict useful machine component performance characteristics.
