Abstract
Service-oriented computing is replacing the object-oriented computing paradigm to
become the main paradigm for software development and programming. This talk
discusses Service-oriented computing paradigm, its impact on the software
development and software application, as well as its impact on the career path of
students in computer science and technology. Research issues and sample projects at
Arizona State University will be discussed.
Biography:
Dr. Chen received Dr. rer. nat. Degree from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in
1993. He did postdoctoral research at LAAS-CNRS, France, in 1995 and 1996. From
1994 to 2000, Dr. Chen was an assistant and associate professor at Wits University at
Johannesburg, South Africa. He was the founding director of the Research Program
for Highly Dependable Systems and was a rated scientist by the South African
National Research Foundation. Dr. Chen jointed Arizona State University, USA, in
2001 and he is current a Senior Research Scientist in the Computer Science and
Engineering Department. Dr. Chen's research areas include dependable computing,
software engineering, and service-oriented computing. He has coauthored five books
and over 80 research papers, 20 of which are on service-oriented computing and were
