  简介:
报告摘要: The spontaneous formation of complex modulated structures or
spatiotemporal patterns is ubiquitous in both natural and artificial
systems, and plays a key role in controlling system properties and
functionality. However, a comprehensive understanding of such
phenomenon is hindered by the fact that the underlying processes are
usually nonequilibrium, nonlinear, can span a variety of spatial
and temporal scales, and involve complex coupling between different
scales and also with material growth and processing conditions. In
this talk I will introduce some of such out-of-equilibrium systems
that are of continuing great interest, particularly the nanostructure
self-assembly in strained solids and mesophase dynamics in soft
matters such as block copolymers. They can be characterized via the
associated system dynamics, ranging from the relaxational feature
governed by free energy minimization in near-equilibrium systems, to
the least-understood nonrelaxational dynamics in systems far from
equilibrium where the well-known minimization principle does not
apply. Some of our recent progress on multiple-scale modeling and
analysis for these seemingly separate but fundamentally related
systems will be discussed.
