Dr. O’Donnell is an expert working on applications of ultrasonics to medicine and non-destructive testing. His most recent research has explored new imaging modalities in biomedicine, including elasticity imaging, in vivo microscopy, optoacoustic arrays, optoacoustic contrast agents for molecular imaging and therapy, thermal strain imaging, and catheter based devices. He holds 55 patents and has authored or coauthored more than 300 publications. In addition, he is associate editor of the journal Ultrasonic Imaging.
