Seminar Abstract
This Seminar provides a basic starting point for environmental management at nuclear facilities in the United States. The material provides a practical understanding of air sampling in nuclear power generating stations and other nuclear facilities such as waste processing and fuel fabrication plants. An overview of the design considerations for the extraction of representative samples from stacks and ducts using ANSI N13.1-1999 (Sampling and Monitoring Releases of Airborne Radioactive Substances From the Stacks and Ducts of Nuclear Facilities) is provided. In addition, operational aspects as they relate to the actual implementation of ANSI N13.1-1999 and the technical challenges as they relate to development of ANSI Standards for stacks, ducts and ambient air sampling will be discussed. A special topic, waste management as it relates to a commercial nuclear fuel reprocessing facility will be included. This special topic will include air, water and solid waste streams from fuel reprocessing.

- ANSI N13.1, “Sampling and Monitoring Releases of Airborne Radioactive Substances from the Stacks and Ducts of Nuclear Facilities”
- ANSI N13.56 “Sampling and Monitoring Releases of Airborne Radioactivity in the Workplace of Nuclear Facilities”
- ANSI N323C “Performance Criteria and Testing of Air Monitors”
同时,他还担任以下标准委员会的召集人:
- ANSI N13.61, “Sampling and Monitoring Airborne Radioactive Substances from the Ambient Atmosphere”。
此外,他还参与了美国环保署/能源部特别小组,开发了用于估算零星源及片源的辐射排放的技术方法指导。
