We are presenting novel results showing some interesting properties of a quantum degenerate plasma produced in the high-density region of a supersonic jet expansion. The plasma is obtained by two-photon, two-color resonant excitation of nitric oxide close to the ionization threshold. The conditions for quantum degeneracy will be described. This electron source offers a great opportunity to be used in accelerator physics including free electron lasers and wakefield acceleration. |
