abstract Electron backscatter diffraction measurements can be nowadays performed with a maximum speed of up to 1000 patterns/sec. Thus, in a very short time a huge number of data can be collected which has certain influences on the data presentation. Despite faster PCs and the use of specifically designed graphic processor units (GPU) the real time display and rotation of several hundred thousands or even millions of data points in pole figures is non-realistic. The presentation will discuss oportunities to increase the speed and simplify the generation of stereographic or equal areal projections of such data. The approach enables real time rotation for visualization as well as real time switching between different projection types. A second part will focus on the rarely known fact that for 7 of the 11 Laue group symmetries the mainly used inverse pole figure colouring shows incontinuities similar to those encountered in Euler angle colouring. The reasons will be explained and solutions will be discussed.
