Biography:

Dr. Xinan Tang is currently CTO and co-founder of Clearcloud Inc.  Previously he has worked in various silicon-valley companies including Intel. Obtained his PhD from the University of Delaware in 1999, he is a guest professor in USTC where he led a team to have published China’s first PPoPP paper.

Abstract:

A computer with 100+ cores can easily be accessed in one’s desk-top and a programmer can comfortably accomplish the tasks that are unthinkable previously. As the PC revolutionized the society, the personal supercomputer will have tremendous impacts on our future life if its power can be effectively unleashed.

However it is very challenging to do parallel programming on a personal supercomputer. In this talk, I will firstly review the Intel architecture evolution and discuss major optimizations that can bring significant performance improvements on a personal-supercomputer. Then, I will demonstrate a network performance monitoring product that effectively uses these optimization techniques to achieve the world-record speed of 20Gbps.
