This talk is about the El Niño, a climatic phenomena of great global impact. For the sake to convey our findings by analogies and to fulfill the promise as indicated by the title, I will present an 18th century painting with a swing scene and a short video illustrating the 18th century discovery about some music tunes, some relevant math concepts and an example of physics system. I will then show there is a hidden beauty residing in the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and annual cycle (AC) interaction from the simple math concept perspective. That hidden beauty is shared in the artic scenes, in the music trills, and a simple physics system. All this, however, serves to stress the bottom lines of our recent progress for understanding the basic dynamics of El Niño and its strong influences on the Asia monsoon climate and beyond. |
