罗布·里曼是著名文化哲学家，尼克萨斯研究院院长。尼克萨斯研究院创建于1994年，主要致力于社会、哲学、文化等西方文化遗产的研究。目前尼克萨斯研究院已经成为欧洲人文主义思想的研究中心。这里有许多客座专家，如齐泽克、丹尼尔•巴伦博伊姆、索尼娅•甘地、金斯堡、哈贝马斯、J M库切等。

讲座介绍Introduction of the lecture:
What is it that makes life worth living? What makes life meaningful?
The speaker will start with the analyses by Nietzsche that what is ahead of us is “two hundred years of nihilism” – which will make it impossible to find an answer to our question as there is no longer any meaning. Two “alternatives” wanted to fill the nothingness of nihilism: science as a worldview and kitsch as a worldview and its impact on our idea of freedom.
Then he will proceed with an overview of the political views in our time, the present ideas of what “a good society” is, and end the lecture with a strong plea for the necessity of a “nobility of spirit” as without it, as history has shown, we will never find an answer to the eternal question “what will make my life meaningful”, nor will be ever able to build together a “good society” where people can live in truth, do justice and create beauty.
