Abstract
Noise and vibration from trains affect not only the passenger, but also those who live and work along the route. How to reduce noise and vibration from trains is a typical problem which has attracted much attention for years.
In this talk, we focus on developing some novel techniques so as to monitor and control noise and vibration from trains. For the monitoring, emphases are put on exploring the relationship between vibration and noise, and then establishing the monitoring program (design criteria, selection of sensitive parameters, threshold, etc.); while for the control issue, efforts are focused on analyzing the control strategies and mechanism of double-window structures, which are widely used for noise insulation in trains. Besides, the effect of distortion in car on sound transmission is also investigated. Some useful results are presented and they give guidance on the analysis and design of low-noise trains during application.
Biography
Dr. Li received his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering Department of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1998. He joined the research center for noise abatement and control there and was awarded the Competitive Research Fellow Scholarship from the university in late 2000, by undertaking various research projects in fields of structural dynamics, noise and vibration control, and composite structures. In August 2006, he joined the MAE as an instructor take as teaching work in The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Li has published 36 technical papers in international journals and conferences, and also been actively involved in various consultancy works, e.g., the test and analysis of vibration on Ma On Shan water treatment works for HK government; the measurement of noise and vibration on the railway at Sunny Bay and Olympic Stations for MTRC, and etc. He is the member of International Institute of Acoustic and Vibration, and serves as the reviewer for international journals in the field of noise and vibration control. |
