Brief Introduction:
Israel government policy regarding encouraging cooperation between research institutes and the industry is conducted via The Program for Developing Scientific and Technological Infrastructure. The goal of the program for developing scientific infrastructure is to extract the scientific potential that exists in the universities and of the researchers. This is in order to develop a new scientific area that will add value to Israel's future economic potential. The Ministry of Science and Technology wish to do this by developing both, infrastructure for research and for human development in particular areas.
Bio of the Speaker:
Rabbi Professor Daniel Hershkowitz is a Knesset member and the Minister of Science and Technology of Israel. In 2009, he was elected the head of the “Habayit Hayehudi”(the Jewish Home) party. Professor Hershkowitz was born on January 2, 1953 in Haifa, Israel. Both of his parents are survivors of the Holocaust. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. He is a full professor of mathematics at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Professor Hershkowitz has published over 80 mathematical papers and is a member of the editorial board of 4 journals.
In addition to his career in academics, Professor Hershkowitz is a certified Rabbi. Since 1997, he has been serving as the Rabbi of the Ahuza neighborhood in Haifa. He has also been serving as the head of a Rabbinical Conversion Court since 1996. He has written numerous halachic and Jewish philosophical articles and given many lectures. He is married to Shimona, the principal of a special education high school. They have five children and eight grandchildren.
