Biorefining is a still largely unexplored territory and presents many research and business opportunities for the production of bio-based products from agricultural and forest residues. So far, different complex biorefinery systems are being forced in research and development, and that concerning 'Lignocellulosic Feedstock Biorefinery', using dry raw material such as cellulose-containing biomass and wastes, is the most promising as regards the supply of alternative fuels. This work is concerned at the sequence of operations from the hydrolysis of lignocellulosic materials to the synthesis of the biodiesel, focusing on specific aspects that still limit the overall efficiency of the process.
