White matter degeneration plays an important role in various neuronal and psychological disorders. Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging (dMRI) provides a unique tool to characterize the integrity and connectivity of white matter in a fully noninvasive manner. This talk aims to present the background and methodological development of dMRI techniques with emphasis on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), as well as recent advances in beyond-tenor techniques and joint analysis with other imaging modalities. Clinical applications on aging, neurodegenerative diseases, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and posttraumatic stress disorders (PTSD) are also discussed.
