报告摘要:
The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory was commissioned in April, 2006 and reached a nominal operating power of 1 MW in September, 2009. Even at ~2/3 of its designed capacity, SNS already becomes the brightest pulsed neutron source in the world, and a premier facility for material and life science research. To provide accurate target performance estimation and to meet future development needs, we developed an as-built model for the operating target system of the SNS. Following a brief introduction of SNS, the design of the SNS target system as exhibited in this as-built model is discussed. We further present a map of neutron economy for the SNS target system by investigating the neutron and proton flux distributions, the neutron balance, and the energy deposition. Based on the as-built model, the moderator performance at SNS was recalculated taking advantage of the improved physics in the Monte Carlo simulation code, MCNPX, and most recent scattering kernels. The neutron intensity spectra, pulse shapes and brightness profiles regarding the SNS moderator performance are discussed in this talk.
