  简介:
讲座简介:
The Arctic climate has undergone rapid changes in recent decades and is widely expected to continue to change in the near future. Aerosols have contributed to multi-decadal Arctic climate variability in the past and offer potential opportunities for mitigation actions aimed at reducing Arctic warming. In order to facilitate the detection and attribution of climate change in the Arctic and to aid policymakers, improvements in modelling capabilities for the Arctic are a key priority for atmospheric physics model development activities at the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma). This includes the introduction of an aerosol microphysics scheme in the latest version of the Canadian Atmospheric Global Climate Model (CanAM4.3). New processes for black carbon are accounted for, including indirect (cloud) effects, enhanced absorption of solar radiation in internally mixed aerosols and in cloud droplets, and darkening of snow albedos. The new scheme produces very good agreement of model results with observations for aerosols and clouds. An overview of the modelling capabilities will be presented, followed by a summary of studies of Arctic climate processes and an assessment of the impacts of black carbon on Arctic climate.
主讲人简介:
Dr. von Salzen received a PhD in atmospheric sciences from the University of Hamburg, Germany in 1997.  He has been a Canadian government research scientist since 1999 and is now leading the development of the Canadian Atmospheric Global Climate model. As an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria and University of British Columbia he has led research activities in Canadian academic climate research networks. Dr. von Salzen has served as a member of the Expert Group on Black Carbon and Ozone, Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP). He recently became a member of the science steering group of the PACES (Air Pollution in the Arctic: Climate, Environment and Societies) activity of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) Project.
His research interests include the impact of short-lived climate pollutants on Arctic climate and the development of parameterizations for aerosols and clouds in atmospheric models.
