讲座内容提要：This lecture will give some thought to the translations from Chinese of two professors of Chinese at Oxford and Cambridge respectively (James Legge理雅格 and Giles Herbert翟理斯), the one a missionary and the other a diplomat. This difference has a bearing on their translations and their understanding of religion which has had important effects on Western study of religions in China and the broader study of comparative religion.【案：James Legge理雅各，牛津大学教授、著名汉学家，《论语》、《大学》、《中庸》、《孟子》、《书经》、《诗经》、《春秋》、《易经》、《礼记》、《孝经》和《道德经》的英译者。翟理斯，外交家，剑桥大学汉学教授，翻译《佛国记》、《中国神话故事》、《庄子》等。】

David Jasper教授简介：英国牛津大学神学博士、杜伦大学（Durham University）文学博士，现为英国格拉斯哥大学（University of Glasgow）“文学、神学、艺术跨学科研究中心”主任、中国教育部“长江学者”讲座教授（2011）、“海外名师”（2011）。主要著作：《新约与文学想象》（The New Testament and the Literary Imagination，1987）、《浪漫主义的圣俗文典》（The Sacred and Secular Canon in Romanticism, 1999）、《神圣的沙漠：宗教、文学、艺术与文化》（The Sacred Desert：Religion, Literature, Art and Culture, 2004）、《诠释学引论》（A Short Introduction to Hermeneutics, 2004）、《神圣的身体》（The Sacred Body, 2009）、《神圣的共同体》（The Sacred Community，2012）。
