主讲人简介:
Professor Needleman is a Member of US National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Mechanics. In 1994, his work on 3D modeling of metallic fracture was a finalist in the Science Category for the Computerworld-Smithsonian Award. In 2006 he was the recipient of both the William Prager Medal and the Drucker Medal. He is currently a professor at Brown University. Professor Needleman's main research interests are in the computational modeling of deformation and fracture processes in structural materials, in particular metals.
讲座内容介绍:
Professor Needleman will present a personal perspective on engineering education for the technological challenges of the 21st century. He will discuss where his perspective comes from, and offer some possible education strategies. Although the main focus will be on engineering education for engineers, Professor Needleman will also comment on the importance of providing an understanding of engineering issues and engineering models of thinking for informed citizens in a technological society.
