Speaker’s Bio:

 

Shalini Vajjhala was appointed to the position of Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Office of International and Tribal Affairs at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on September 21, 2009.

 

Dr. Vajjhala joins EPA from Resources for the Future (RFF), an environmental and natural resources think tank in Washington, DC, where she spent the last four years researching global development and environmental policy issues. Her work covers a wide-range of technical policy issues where coordination and public participation are critical components of policy effectiveness. Her research portfolio included academic and policy work on: climate change adaptation, environmental justice, renewable energy, carbon sequestration risk management, and biofuels policies, among other topics.

 

Most recently, Dr. Vajjhala served as the Deputy Associate Director for Energy and Climate at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where her responsibilities included the development of domestic and international climate change adaptation strategies.  

 

Dr. Vajjhala received her Ph.D. in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University.  She is fluent in Telegu, proficient in Hindi and French, and conversational in Dutch.
