颜海平简历

Full Professor of theatre, performance studies, and critical theory at UCLA, Yan’s specialties include twentieth century Asian (primarily Chinese), European, and sub-Saharan African dramas, critical theory, and transnational performance studies. Her recent book publications include The Journey of Homecoming: A Collection of Essays on Gender, Culture, and Global Politics (1996 & 1998) and Chinese Women Writers and the Feminist Imagination, 1905-1948 (Routledge, 2006, second edition in paperback 2008); as well as the widely reviewed Theatre and Society: An Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Drama (ed. & intro., 1998 & 2000), Other Transnationals: Asian Diaspora in Performance (a special issue of Modern Drama,  guest editor and contributor, Summer 2005), and Globalization and the Development of the Humanities (an anthology of critical essays by four US and four Chinese authors, co-editor and contributor, Shanghai: Shanghai Classics Publishers, 2006). She has published in leading journals in her field such as Modern Drama, Theatre Journal, The Journal of Dramatic Criticism and Theory, Theatre Journal International, Asian Theatre Journal, and China Review International. She is currently working on two new books on performance of transnationalisms and intellectual agency, both will be published by the University of Michigan Press. Since the fall of 2003, Yan has serviced as the Director of UCLA US-China Arts and Media Programs. Her accolades include China’s 1980-1981 First Prize for Excellence in Drama (the equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize in the U.S.) for her ten-act historical play titled Li Shimin, Prince of Qin, and CNN’s 1999 selection as one of “six most influential Chinese cultural figures” for her scholarly and creative works both in English and Chinese.

Haiping Yan has served on the executive committee of the American Society for Theatre Research and President Elect of Women and Theatre Association. She has been on the National Committee for Research and Publication in the field of theatre, film, and urban arts since 2003. She has been serving as a judge on the Best Book Award Committee for the American Association for Theatre in Higher Education since 2006.

Yan is an invited seminar leader of 2006 Cornell School of Criticism and Theory, and the 2007-2008 Distinguished Norman Freehling Professor at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Yan also holds a Zijiang Chair Professorship in the Arts and Humanistic Studies at East China Normal University in Shanghai, conducting advanced summer seminars and organizing international scholarly forums.

Yan will join the faculty at Cornell University in the fall of 2008 as Full Professor of the Arts and Humanistic Studies, serving as the Director of the Graduate Studies in the Field of Theatre, Film, and Visual Arts, as well as the Director of Cornell-China Institute for the Arts and Humanities.
