摘要: With the rapid increase of vehicle population and travel distance, traffic congestion has been a worldwide problem in large metropolitan areas. Traffic congestion has caused not only increased cost of travel and delay, but also schedule uncertainty. Remarkable effort and investment have been made to mitigate congestion. This presentation describes a solution set developed by Dr. Yinhai Wang to make freeway a controllable system that ensures travel reliability. This solution set integrates several most recent ideas and technologies developed through traffic management research and practice, including active traffic management, ramp metering, integrated corridor management, and congestion pricing. Applying such a cost-effective solution set shall enhance both the usage of the existing roadway infrastructure system and freeway travel reliability.

报告人简介:Dr. Wang is an Associate Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Washington (UW). Dr. Wang is the founder of the Smart Transportation Applications and Research Laboratory (STAR Lab) at the UW. Through his consistent efforts, the STAR Lab has received broad support from both public transportation agencies and private companies. It has become the remote training center for the Washington State Department of Transportation. Dr. Wang has conducted extensive research in traffic detection systems, traffic accident modeling, transportation data management and analysis, traffic operations, advanced traffic control systems, and traffic simulation.  He has published over forty peer-reviewed journal articles.  He serves as members of both the Freeway Operations Committee and Transportation Information Systems and Technology Committee at the Transportation Research Board (TRB).  He is also the winner of the ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering Best Paper Award for 2003. Dr. Wang is currently an associate editor for the ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering and the Thomas & Marilyn Nielsen Endowed Professor at the UW.
