The main focus of the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is the exploitation of Laser Technology for the benefit of society, especially focused on industry. It specializes on high power Laser Applications in production technology, more precise on the age of DIGITAL PHOTONIC PRODUCTION. This includes on the side of additive manufacturing Selective Laser Melting SLM, Laser Metal Deposition LMD and controlled deposition of functional layers. Production without tools directly from digital design data are envisioned even in series production frequent also are referred to as “3-D-Printing”.
 
The lecture will display the systematic advantages of the Technology ultimately leading to “Economic one piece flow” and “Complexity for free”. Build up rates for complex metal parts up to 3 cm3/min corresponding to approximately 1kg/h have been demonstrated in SLM and a factor of 10 higher for LMD. Also new processes for Laser Applications will be addressed, such as Laser Polishing of metals and glass, Selective Laser Etching or cell-by-cell-printing for organ assembly are under investigation.
 
Finally, the consequences for new structures in the collaboration of education at Universities and fundamental as well as applied research in corresponding organizations shall be analyzed. Schemes for such new structures of collaboration will be discussed on the basis of “Industrial matriculation in the University” in the new “RWTH Aachen University CAMPUS”.

Reinhart Poprawe教授,清华大学荣誉教授,亚琛工业大学负责中国事务的副校长,Fraunhofer ILT激光研究所主任,亚琛工业大学激光技术中心主任。研究领域包括:激光器应用及器件、三维打印技术、等离子体技术等。
