After an introduction briefly describing the Standard Model(s) of particle physics and cosmology, I will talk about how both fermionic and bosonic extra dimensions may be needed to deepen our understanding of the underlying laws of nature. The fermionic dimensions lead to supersymmetry, which may be observable at the CERN collider LHC. I'll describe the status of that search, and the probably related Higgs boson discovery. Then I'll briefly describe underlying approaches such as compactified M/string theory that derive rather than assume supersymmetry, their successful prediction of the Higgs boson mass, and associated LHC predictions, and end with some perspectives. |
