Head of  Shamban Tribology Lab., Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Technion. 1991- present

He has published 150 papers and owned 13 patents.

Dr. Dong Zhu received his Ph.D. in ME from Tsinghua University in China in 1984. He went to the Center for Engineering Tribology, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, as a Research Fellow in the beginning of 1986. He was later employed by ALCOA in 1990 as a Staff Engineer and Lab Manager. He jointed Eaton Corporation in 1994, and he was a Principal Research Engineer and Program Manager before his retirement from Eaton in June, 2008. His is now doing consulting work in collaboration with Northwestern University. His is also a Guest Professor at Tsinghua University. His research interests include rough surface contact and mixed lubrication, engine and transmission tribology, components failure analyses, surface modification technologies such as PVD and thermal spray coatings, polishing and surface texturing processes for tribological applications. He has published about 75 papers and won various awards for his technical contributions. He was elected as Fellow of the STLE in 2006, and Fellow of the ASME in 2007.
