报告摘要:The propagation of waves in periodic media is fundamental for many aspects in science and engineering. In optics, periodic structures, such as gratins, are used for diffracting, emitting, confining light...I will review some of our recent works, in which engineering Bloch modes has played a crucial role for designing new devices or for understanding basic physical phenomenon in periodic structures. The review will include 1) efficient diffractive optical element based on effective medium theory, 2) confinement in photonic crystal optical cavities, 3) slow light transport in disordered photonic crystal waveguides.
 
报告人简介: Philippe Lalanne is Directeur de Recherche (DR1) at CNRS and is an international expert in nanoscale electrodynamics. He is Ancien Elève of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Saint Cloud. He received the Agrégation de Sciences Physiques and the M.S. degree in Solid State Physics in 1986, the PhD degree in Physics in 1989 from the University of Orsay, and the Habilitation à diriger les recherches in 1996 from the same University.   He was first involved in Optical Information Processing in the group of Pierre Chavel at l’Institut d’Optique. In 1995, he spent a sabbatical year in the group of G.M. Morris, at the Institute of Optics in Rochester. Since then, he is involved in computational electrodynamics, subwavelength diffractive optics, photonic crystals, microcavity, plasmonics and metamaterials.  He has co-authored over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has provided more than 50 invited talks in conferences and workshops. He is a recipient of the Bronze medal of CNRS, the prix Fabry de Gramont of the Société Française d’Optique; he is a fellow of the IOP, OSA and SPIE and was Carl Zeiss visiting Professor at Jena in 2010.
